Walnut pie crust
Have you ever used or thought to use walnuts to make a pie crust? If you haven't made it before, you don't know what you've missed😛
I love walnuts and I use lots of them in my recipes but if don't like the walnuts you can substitute them with hazelnuts or pecans.
Personally, for this recipe I prefer walnuts. I made a pie crust with hazelnuts too, tastes good but with walnuts is even better.
The walnuts improve the flavor of the crust and add a nutty note to the pastry don't omit them just adjust the amount of walnuts according to your taste.
I used this recipe to make some mini apple pies a few weeks ago,we went for a birthday party and I thought those little treats will delight them.....and everyone asked me what I put in the pasty😊

This buttery, flaky, melt in your mouth pie crust recipe is a keeper and I will be making again and again!I hope you guys will love this recipe as much as we do.
Ingredients for crust:
- 240g all-purpose flour
- 140 g unsalted butter(83% fat content),cold and cut into small cubes
- 40 g walnuts
- 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar(5% acidity)
- 4-5 tablespoons cold sparkling water
- a good pinch of salt
Optional:
1 tablespoon caster sugar
Directions:
- Place flour, salt and walnuts in a food processor, pulse for a few seconds until walnuts are evenly ground.
- Add cold butter and pulse until the butter is the size of the peas.
- Add vinegar and cold sparkling water and pulse again until the dough is sticky when pressed between the fingers.
- Transfer dough onto a work surface and flatten into a disk, wrap in cling film and refrigerate at least 1 hour before rolling.
- Remove the dough from the plastic wrap and place it onto a work surface sprinkled with flour, lighty dust the top of the dough with flour and roll it out until 1/8 inch thick (0,3cm)
- Transfer the dough to a tart /pie pan with a removable bottom.
- You can pre-bake it and fill it with your desired filling or you can add your desired filling and bake according to instructions for the pie/tart recipe
Notes:
- For best results use shelled walnuts about 6-8 walnuts
- If you substitute the apple cider vinegar with other vinegar of your choice be sure has 5% acidity, not more
- vinegar and sparkling water are very important to achieve a flaky crust
- use cold ingredients(butter and sparkling water)
That's all, folks!
Enjoy!

I have done it quite recently, actually, made a pie crust using a blend of walnuts and hazelnuts - because I'm a sicko for hazelnuts!! It is so good, especially if the filling involves chocolate, right?
